Explore Agriculture With Games and Puzzles at ‘My American Farm’
March 18, 2011 By Blair ThomasWork a booth at a farmers market, harvest the wheat from your field, sort out the ingredients to make a delicious apple pie, check out what crops are grown on one of the 61,000 farms in Indiana. And do it all while playing a computer game at My American Farm.
My American Farm is a free online agriculture education resource built for students, educators and families. The website offers games and puzzles, fun learning activities and challenges, agriculture-themed e-comics, trivia and polls, videos, and hands-on family activities.
Developed by the American Farm Bureau, My American Farm aims to engage youth, teachers and parents through fun activities and educational experiences that target the field of agriculture. The site also offers educator resources for the classroom.
Students can sort through the nutritional content of produce with Farmers Market Challenge, or learn about agriculture facts from all 50 states (did you know the common corn plant is 5-12 feet tall?) with Ag Across America. They also explore careers in agriculture while playing My Little Ag Me.
My American Farm also teaches students about how farmers feed the world, care for their animals and take care of the environment.
