Indiana Farm Bureau has unveiled a free broadband test that will pinpoint which parts of the Hoosier state are in the most need of reliable, affordable access to high-speed broadband service.

The Indiana Speed Test is available at infb.org/speedtest. It’s also available on the websites of other Indiana Broadband Strategic Partnership coalition sponsors as well as a growing list of collaborating organizations. To take the test:

  • Go to infb.org/speedtest.
  • Enter the street address where you want the internet quality tested.
  • No internet connection? Then it’s essential to report your address so you can provide reasons why you don’t have broadband – not available, poor quality, too expensive, etc.

It takes less than one minute to complete, and no personal information is collected. Indiana residents are encouraged to take the test multiple times on their home computers and other devices to document reliability. For example, testing on a cell phone will only test your cell connection but may be appropriate when using a hot spot.

As a crowdsourced test, the Indiana Speed Test provides real-time internet speed data by collecting information from residents and pinpointing areas most in need of better broadband service.

The Indiana Broadband Strategic Partnership includes INFB as well as Cook Medical Group, Duke Energy Foundation, Indiana Association of Realtors, Radius Indiana and the Regional Opportunity Initiative. Other groups on the coalition’s growing list of partners include the Purdue Center for Regional Development, Association of Indiana Counties, Indiana School Boards Association, Indiana Association of Small and Rural Schools, Ivy Tech, Indiana Economic Development Association, Indiana Hospital Association, Indiana Electric Cooperatives and Indiana Broadband, a program housed within the office of Lt. Gov. Suzanne Crouch.

GEO Partners LLC, a Minnesota-based company focusing on cost-effective planning and deployment of broadband, created the test and works with broadband groups and public officials in many states to gather the data. The goal is to collect data in all areas of the state.

The software platform and data will be available to local governments and organized broadband groups to analyze potential solutions and aid their applications for Indiana’s Next Level Connections Grants and a variety of federal grants. It is hoped that the collected data will jumpstart efforts to plan broadband infrastructure investments from local portions of the American Rescue Plan Act of 2021, enabling decision-makers to construct investments with the greatest impact.

I’d love to take the test but the website must not be working. It’s not even an option. Yes I clicked on the link but it doesn’t give me any option to enter my address
