An artist may express himself in many ways. For Ghyslain Maurais, it has been through chocolate and pastry. Born in Québec, Canada, Ghyslain found his culinary passion while working in the field to fund his architectural education. Soon after, he changed career paths and entered the Institue du Tourisme et d’Hotelerie du Québec. Certified in French pastry, chocolate décor, candy making, blown/pulled sugar and bread making, Ghyslain’s career includes experience as both a pastry and executive chef in first class restaurants and hotels.
While working at the Inn of Versailles in Ohio, the chef met his wife, Susan. Together they relocated to her hometown in Union City to establish Ghyslain Chocolatier in 1998. Since that time, Ghyslain Chocolatier has established itself as a connoisseur of gourmet chocolate, macarons, breads and fine French pastries. From hand-painted chocolate masterpieces to delicate French macarons to individual European pastries, Ghyslain’s vision and use of the finest ingredients shines through. Shop online at ghyslain.com or at the retail location in Union City.

We’ve been doing some home renovations and just finished with getting our furniture cleaned! I’ve been wanting to reward my kids with a tasty dessert and my 5-year-old shouted out “baked alaska”. No idea where he heard that from but I figured they may actually like it and it’d be a fun challenge!
