Located in Indianapolis, the Kurt Vonnegut Museum and Library (KVML) honors the Indiana native and iconic author of Slaughterhouse-Five and other renowned novels. A pilgrimage destination for die-hard fans, KVML offers a glimpse into Vonnegut’s life through various displays. Vonnegut’s typewriter, Purple Heart and drawings have been loaned to KVML by the Vonnegut family, along with exclusive photos and rejection letters from editors. There’s even a complete replica of the author’s writing studio.
This hidden gem isn’t just a great destination for fans and tourists – it’s an organization that aims to bring Vonnegut’s philosophies to life. Besides awarding scholarships and providing educational resources to teachers and students, KVML annually hosts VonnegutFest in November and celebrates Banned Books Week in late September and early October.
