The national Trees for Troops program launched its 2013 season at Dull’s Tree Farm in Thorntown, Ind., where more than 250 Christmas trees were donated by members of the Indiana Christmas Tree Growers Association and transported to troops overseas in Kandahar Airfield, Afghanistan and the 380th Air Expeditionary Wing in Southwest Asia.
A program of the Christmas SPIRIT Foundation, Trees for Troops provides free, farm-grown Christmas trees to armed forces members and their families each holiday. Since the program began in 2005, it has provided more than 122,000 real Christmas trees. Trees are given by tree growers, retailers and consumers all over the country, eager to show their support of the U.S. troops.
