Delicious soup and empowering women are the main ingredients in Soup of Success (SOS), a nonprofit program of Church Community Services Inc. in Elkhart.
Since 1997, this 20-week program has been a deep dive into the lives of participants, working to understand the root causes of poverty, build self-esteem and independence, and create products that fund the nonprofit for future participants. Women are connected with helpful resources, personal counseling and support on issues such as physical and mental health, domestic violence awareness, goal setting and overcoming barriers.
The program continues to grow with its holistic approach to empowering women, adding classes on computers, communication, self-defense and money management as well as others to help combat issues the women face. Like the program, product creations have grown, including the cookie and dip line and an expanded line of healthy soup mixes. Supporters also can find relaxing candles in the online shop.
