Make a Stop in Corydon for National Ice Cream Month
July is one of the best months. Not only because of our nation’s birthday, perfect beach days and great summer nights, but more importantly, because it’s National Ice Cream Month! The southern town of Corydon celebrates this month-long occasion with three palate-pleasing locations that offer traditional ice cream treats, reminiscent of the classic soda fountain.
Butt Drugs, a pharmacy that’s been around for decades, features an old-fashioned soda fountain serving up shakes, malts, cones and a secret-recipe vanilla ice cream soda. Katie Butt Beckort, the third-generation owner of Butt Drugs says their fountain draws lots of visitors. “It makes our shop so unique. Our guests today experience confections and ice cream sitting at the original soda fountain. It’s the same way visitors have enjoyed our treats for more than 60 years.” Learn more at buttdrugs.com.

Emery’s Ice Cream Parlor dishes up 1940s-inspired flavors such as lemon chiffon, maple nut, tin roof, lemon custard and orange-pineapple. They also serve scrumptious banana splits that draw guests from miles away and a turtle fudge sundae that is topped with a homemade caramel-fudge brownie. Find out more about Emery’s at emerysicecream.com.
Polly’s Freeze, located just 15 miles east of Corydon in Floyd County, features a tasty array of treats including lime sherbert and rich, creamy soft-serve. The shop is hard to miss, with a large neon parrot sign welcoming visitors. Join in the tradition of visiting on opening day in March, and for National Ice Cream month, try their legendary orange sherbert. Discover more at pollysfreeze.com.
