  • When planning your holiday menu, plan for about 1 pound of turkey per person. This gives you a little leeway for the heavy eaters, and what’s left is perfect for your favorite leftovers recipes.
  • There is no real difference in the white to dark meat ratio between female (hens) and male (toms) turkeys.
  • Select your bird based on weight and the number of servings it provides. Hens usually weigh around 14 to 16 pounds, and toms weigh 15 pounds on up.
