The southern half of Indiana will have a prime view of the solar eclipse on the afternoon of April 8, 2024. This will be the first time since 2017 for the Great American Eclipse and the last until August 2044 that the eclipse will be visible for Hoosiers.
Mount Vernon will be the first area to catch a glimpse of the eclipse, and as the afternoon progresses, other regions, including Linton, Bloomington, Indianapolis, Shelbyville, Muncie, New Castle, Connersville and Portland, will have a view. Remember to wear appropriate eye protection when viewing the eclipse.
Total darkness will last about four minutes along the center line of the zone of totality, with areas farther out having less time. For more information and viewing suggestions, visit in.gov/dnr/places-to-go/events/2024-solar-eclipse.
