Float Your Dragon Boat

The Ninth Annual White River Festival in Indianapolis will celebrate its second year of dragon boat races this fall as an opportunity to raise funds for the White River Alliance and its mission to protect and improve Indiana waters. The sport, which originated over 2,000 years ago in China, features 46-foot-long boats and coordinated teams of rowers. Crews consist of 20 paddlers, a steerer to direct the boat and a drummer to keep the pace.

Just in time for Breast Cancer Awareness Month in October, the race is co-sponsored by the Indy SurviveOars, an Indiana dragon boat team of breast cancer survivors.
