The bean’s popularity with the Aztec and Inca cultures is reflected in many different artifacts, and, of course, in the name of the bean itself – named after Lima, Peru. There are two basic types of lima beans: bush and pole. Bush type are typically smaller and mature faster, developing on bushes that grow to be about 2 feet tall. Pole type are a climbing plant, and the beans are typically larger and take longer to mature.
