First cultivated more than 5,000 years ago, lima beans have quite an intriguing history. The bean’s popularity with the Aztec and Inca cultures is reflected in many different artifacts, and, of course, in the name of the bean itself – named after Lima, Peru. Lima beans grow best in air temperatures between 60 and 70 degrees Fahrenheit. Beans will not set pods in temps above 80 degrees or in cold, wet weather.
