Indiana native Michelle Boardman Cogswell brings landscapes and scenery to life with only black ink. Her love of drawing began while growing up on Pine Lake in LaPorte and continued as she took classes at the Art Institute of Chicago, the Lubeznik Center in Michigan City and the Lillstreet Art Center in Chicago.
While she experimented with oil painting, pastels and charcoals, she found a love for working with ink, thanks to the challenge it offers when condensing the entire spectrum of color to black line work. She intentionally allows certain lines, such as windows and doors, to be loose, so the human touch is evident in the artwork.
Cogswell hopes people find nostalgia and comfort in the rural homes and scenery she depicts, primarily inspired by northwest Indiana and southwest Michigan. She offers commissioned artwork alongside other offerings. Visit michelleboardmancogswell.com to learn more.
