Severe storm systems rolled through Indiana on March 31, 2023. Sullivan, Johnson, Clinton and Morgan counties received the brunt of the storms, and sadly, many lost all their possessions or homes. Five Hoosiers lost their lives.

As those affected grappled with the devastation left behind, Indiana Farm Bureau Insurance stepped up to help. Of course, claims adjusters were deployed immediately to look at damaged property, but local employees opened offices on the weekend, others helped serve meals or handed out supplies, customer service representatives assisted clients on claims reports, and many other employees donated money and supplies to help their fellow Hoosiers.

“It’s hard to see this type of devastation and take a step back to remain objective and not get too emotional,” says Jim Dunn, property specialist. “Their houses may need to be rebuilt from the ground up, but right now, do they have a safe place to stay tonight? Are they able to have a good meal? Do they need clothing? I’m there to help them get back on their feet in the long run, but also in that moment.”

Property specialist Joey Davidson agreed with Dunn, saying, “When you first get there, it’s not acquiring a list of belongings that were lost or damaged. It is just, ‘What do you need?’”
