Indiana Farm Bureau Insurance’s new Smart Home Protection Program provides eligible clients with a discount opportunity. At no additional cost to clients, those who qualify receive a Notion Smart Home Monitoring System (“Notion system”) to install in their homes. The Notion system uses multifunctional sensors to alert homeowners and help protect them from potential losses.

Homeowners can easily install the sensors and link them to an app, allowing them to monitor various tasks, such as opening doors and windows, sounding alarms, water leaks, temperature changes, and mold risk. With this Notion system, homeowners receive notifications on their smartphones when potential issues arise, giving them the opportunity to quickly address the problem before it spirals out of control. Plus, eligible policyholders have the potential to get additional savings on their premiums.

“I’ve personally dealt with the nightmare of a water claim,” says Isaiah Blackburn, business operations manager for the Smart Home Protection Program. “No matter where you are in the world, you can get an alert, giving you the chance to act quickly and prevent a minor issue from becoming a big headache.”

Indiana Farm Bureau Insurance piloted the Smart Home Protection Program for a year before introducing it to clients. In that time, more than 250 water leak alerts, 100 sounding alarm alerts and 300 freeze warning alerts were sent to participating clients.

“The pilot proved that a connected home is a better-protected home,” Blackburn says.

In addition to the Notion system, program participants have access to a variety of supporting services. These include a robust monitoring app, customer service, connections to the Home Advisor platform via the app in the case of a water emergency and the optional Notion PRO service that provides 24/7 professional monitoring for additional peace of mind.

“With the chance to save money on their premiums and a chance to prevent minor issues from becoming insurance claims, this Smart Home Protection Program is really a win-win for our insurance clients,” Blackburn says.
