Slice ‘n Bake Maple Pecan Cookies

  1. Even though it takes a little more time to toast those pecans, don’t skip this step. Toasting the nuts brings out more flavor.
  2. Slice ’n bake cookies can be made weeks in advance and frozen. They thaw in a snap. Just be sure to pack them well in double freezer zippered bags or in freezer-appropriate containers.
  3. Pick darker Grade A maple syrup for more robust maple flavor. Generally speaking, the darker the syrup, the more intense the flavor. You’ll probably still want to use maple extract in the cookies for a more pronounced maple flavor.
  4. Cookies are a treat, so enjoy every bite guilt-free. This version does contain a little whole-grain benefit from the white whole-wheat flour (100 percent whole grain).
  5. All nuts, including pecans, contain fiber, dozens of vitamins and minerals, and heart-healthy fats.
